Congratulations to Niels Mailand
Professor Niels Mailand has received an ERC Advanced Grant for the project “Unraveling histone biogenesis
networks in cell physiology and cancer”.
The 2.5 million euro grant gives recipients the freedom to carry out ambitious, long-term research projects.
The project will investigate a fundamental process in the body’s cells that may help explain how cancer arises and develops, aiming to generate new knowledge about the production of histones—proteins that help organize and protect the cells’ DNA. The research will uncover how healthy cells regulate this process and how cancer cells exploit it to grow uncontrollably. The goal is both to gain a better understanding of cancer and to investigate whether new knowledge about the overactive histone production in cancer cells creates vulnerabilities that can be exploited in future targeted cancer treatments.
