Magnus Borup Bloch supported by NEYE-Fonden

NEYE-Fonden has awarded PhD student Magnus Borup Bloch a DKK 300.000 grant to support his research project “Battling multidrug resistance in cancer”.

During treatment of brain cancer, the effect of certain chemotherapeutic drugs is repressed because they are constantly removed from the brain via certain membrane proteins at the blood-brain barrier. The aim of this research project is to obtain a detailed understanding of the structure and function of these proteins. This will allow for rational design of specific and effective inhibitors of their export activity, which can be co-administered with clinically used chemotherapeutic drugs and crucially increase their therapeutic effectiveness.
