Tower Talks with Soeren Brunak

Talks

SUND is launching a new research communication concept: Talks at the Top is intended to enrich the citizens of Copenhagen with new knowledge and to give SUND’s researchers a chance to communicate their knowledge to a live audience.

The general public is showing increasing interest in the health and medical sciences. DR has named 2018 ‘science year’ and is e.g. currently airing the series Din geniale krop (Your Brilliant Body), to which several SUND researchers have contributed.

Audiences have flocked to knowledge festivals like the Danish Science Festival and  Bloom, while music festivals like Frost and  Heartland are now supplementing their posters with research communication.

More than 10,000 guests turned up for Culture Night at SUND in October. And since the Maersk Tower opened its doors for guided tours in September 2017 and until 1 March this year, 5,198 guests have taken a guided tour of the building. A few weeks ago SUND hosted an event within the framework of the music festival Frost, where Professor Nicole Schmitt from the Department of Biomedical Sciences talked about disordered cardiac rhythm accompanied by the band Detekt.

’Nicole Schmitt and the Frost Festival was a unique experience for all of us, where knowledge and music formed part of a great synthesis. I look forward to more experimental outreach activities both at Medical Museion and with the new series Talks at the Top. I am really glad to see such great demand for knowledge – both on the digital platforms and in our physical surroundings at SUND’, says Dean Ulla Wewer.
